OEC Dances the Night Away

On Friday, September 18th, 2009, about 70 Oakland Early College students gathered in the H building on OCC’s Orchard Ridge campus for the 2nd annual Kick Off Dance. An array of students varying from grades 9-13 amassed for a night filled with loud music and lively dancing with their friends. Beginning at 6 pm and carrying on until 10, this was undoubtedly the perfect start to an amazing year to come.

With the assistance of a few enthusiastic students, the OEC dance committee transformed the multi-purpose room of the H building into an enticing and alluring atmosphere for the dance to be held.

“We made all of the decorations ourselves,” states Emma Green, one of the hard working students that helped assemble the dance. “We had to find a DJ and spread the word by going around to classes and talking about the details. Planning alone took about 2-3 months.”

The outcome was marvelous. 70 OEC students attended in comparison to the 30 that were present at the previous dance. Students and faculty alike had a great time dancing the night away. Taylor Beakley, a 12th year student recalls her time at the dance by saying, “It was a lot of fun, I’m really glad I went.” The OEC dance committee is already planning the next dance for sometime during November or December of 2009. It is sure to be another hit.
